Stewards of Children
Children cannot protect themselves from abuse. Educated adults are their only line of defense. Darkness to Light's (D2L) Stewards of Children is the only national child abuse prevention program proven to increase knowledge, improve attitudes, and change child protective behaviors.
In 2012, Bivona Child Advocacy Center and the YMCA of Greater Rochester together launched the first child sexual abuse prevention education program featuring Stewards of Children in Monroe Country. The partnership has grown to include 14 agencies, all dedicated to a common goal of training 28,000 adults in Monroe County to identify signs and symptoms of child sexual abuse, to recognize offender behavior, and to responsibly report abuse, even if it’s just a suspicion.
